My 2 cents is that you should look at the overall app. Few points..
1. a low verbal can be compensated by a high TOEFL (if you are non native speaker). Also great essays and recommendations that highlight communication abilities will help. Even a high AWA (5.5 and above) will alleviate a low verbal. A low means not lower than 50 percentile though.
2. greater than 80% in quant is crucial - most schools expect this.
3. Leadership qualities, quality work ex, stellar reco's and community work will add immense value to the application. If you have worked other than in your native country - highlight the international experience.
4. A high undergrad GPA will help compensate a relatively low GMAT
630 is still good for the top 30 schools. All the best.

I agree with alibaba. I think 630 is within the 80% gmat range of most schools. The avg may be higher but 40 points less than the average is still a good chance if other parts of the application is strong.

I think 630 is weak for the top 10. A high GMAT does not guarantee an admit, but a low GMAT can keep you out of the game. If this was only your first attempt...I suggest a re-take - unless you are applying this year and you dont have time.

if 630 does not rightly represent your calibre and u think you are 700+ type - retake. Adcom expects people to retake if there can be a scope to improve the scores.
