The average speed of a car is being monitored every ten minutes and is found to increase by 3 miles per hour during each successive interval of 10-minutes. If the speed of the car was found to be 33 miles per hour during the fourth interval of ten minutes, how many miles did the car travel during the second interval of 10 - minutes?

(A) 4.0
(B) 4.5
(C) 5.0
(D) 5.5
(E) 6.0

The speed of the car increases by 3 miles per hour every 10 minutes.

In the fourth interval its speed was found to be 33 mph.

So, in the second interval the car would have traveled at 27 mph.

Therefore, the distance covered in the second interval will be rate * time = 27mph * 1/6 hour

4.5 miles. Choice B
