Anne, Beth and Cyril have a total of $42. How much does Cyril have?
(1) Cyril has as twice as much money as Anne and 2/3 as much as Beth.
(2) The sum of amounts of money that Cyril and Beth have is half that of Anne.
(A) Statement (1) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (2) alone is not sufficient.
(B) Statement (2) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (1) alone is not sufficient.
(C) BOTH statements TOGETHER are sufficient, but NEITHER statement ALONE is sufficient.
(D) EACH statement ALONE is sufficient.
(E) Statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are NOT sufficient. |

it is choice 1, Statement 1 alone is sufficient,but statement (2) alone is not sufficient.
2a = c
c = 2/3 b
a+b+c = 42
c/2 + (3/2)c + c = 42 and thus solving this, we can get the amount with C.
statement 2:
c+b = 2a - nothing can be inferred. |
