Good Quiz!!!. One error noticed.!!!
Pipe A can fill a tank in 12 hours. Pipe B whose diameter is twice that of pipe A is also connected to the tank. If both the pipes are kept open when the tank is empty, how long will it take the tank to overflow?
2 hours 40 minutes
2 hours 12 minutes
2 hours 24 minutes
9 hours 36 minutes
Insufficient data(Correct Answer)
The correct answer should be as marked. Nothing is stated about the velocity of the fluid flow in Pipe B, therefore it’s incorrect to assume the velocity to be the same as in Pipe A.
The GMAT test setters are quite notorious for these types of traps. No assumptions, extraneous or otherwise are allowed.
Having eliminated the impossible, then whatever is left, however improbable, must be the right answer.
Regards;
Shaji. |

Hi Shaji
I agree
Given insufficient data as the last option one has to go by what Mr. Holmes said.
Will make suitable changes to the quiz.
