There are x people and y chairs in a room where x and y are positive prime numbers. How many ways can the x people be seated in the y chairs (assuming that each chair can seat exactly one person)?

(1) x + y = 12

(2) There are more chairs than people.

x+y = 12 and y>x

x and y are positive prime numbers.

12 = 5+7 or 1+11 or 2+10 or 3+9 or 4+8 or 6+6

out of these combinations, the only combination that fits is 5 and 7.

x+y = 12 and y>x ( from statement 2 )

x and y are positive prime numbers.

12 = 5+7 or 1+11 or 2+10 or 3+9 or 4+8 or 6+6

out of these combinations, the only combination that fits is 5 and 7.

So the Answer is C.

1 is neither prime nor composite

A prime number by definition has to have two factors or divisors.

1 has only one. So, it falls under neither category.

So, the answer should be C.
