A takes 1.25 min to run 500m and B takes 1.5min to run the same distance. How much start in terms of distance, will A be able to give B in a km race so that the end in dead heat?

I m finding a bit difficulty to solve the problem on races is there any shortcut to do it quickly..?

A takes 1.25 min to run 500m => 2.5 min (150 seconds) for 1000m

B takes 1.5 min to run 500m => 3 min (180 seconds) for 1000m

B takes 30 seconds more, or A wins the race by 30 seconds.

IN 30 seconds, B runs 1000*30/180 = 1000/6 = 166.67 m.

Therefore, A can afford to give B a lead of 166.67 m.
