Is the sum of X and Y an even number?

A. 3X is an even number
B. 4Y is an even number

Hey, its jsut very simple.

Since you need to comment on the sum X + Y, we need to know abt the nature of both X and Y. Thus none of the statements can independently solve the problem. Thus the correction option would be the one with both statements taken together.

I am afraid that is not the correct answer.

Stmt 1: 3X is even => X is even

Stmt 2: 4Y is even. Now for any value of Y (Even or odd) product 4Y is even. Hence we cannot say whether Y is even or odd.

So Both statements together are not sufficient

OA is E. Both statements are not sufficient to answer the question.
